Works with "-d sat", "-d sat,12", and "-d sat,16" when attached to an Intel AHCI USB2.0 port. (Some other failures when attached to a USB3.0 port but that's not smartmontools issue.) Testing using Debian x64 6.1+svn3812-1. snow% sudo smartctl -A /dev/sdc smartctl 6.2 2013-04-20 r3812 [x86_64-linux-3.15.6] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-13, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org /dev/sdc: Unknown USB bridge [0x0bc2:0x2312 (0x636)] Please specify device type with the -d option.
