sat+megaraid versus megaraid

I want to write a script that can be run on any box.. to do checks on the
disks behind the raid. On some boxes I have to type:

sudo smartctl -d sat+megaraid,0 -H /dev/sda

on other boxes I can type sudo smartctl -d megaraid,0 -H /dev/sda


I'm unsure how to identify programmatically (from some command), which one
I need. Is there a way to find out this information in an automated way?

perhaps using the megacli tools? I tried running megacli and I couldn't
find the information I wanted.
