I don't have experience with smartctl under OS/X; hopefully someone who
does will be able to give more detail on that.

However, running "smartctl -i" should tell you the "user capacity" that
the drive itself reports, so you can compare that with the figure that
the GPT partition table is using.

Also, does the output of "smartctl --log=xselftest" show anything
different than the regular self-test log?
