Toshiba SATA drives on HP SmartArray

Hello,

I had sent this message some time ago, but apparently it didn't go
through...

I'm trying to find some hint to understand why I'm having trouble to get
SMART data out of Toshiba drives.
They're connected to an HP SmartArray P410i, running CentOS7 using the
hpsa driver. They appear to work well, but smartctl always says that
SMART is disabled.

I'm not sure where the problem lies, it could be some sort of
incompatibility. I'd appreciate any suggestion to help diagnose further.

Here are sample runs.

Running smartctl, I get the following result:

If I add -s on, it shows a bit more, but still not much, and -s on has
to be added every time, it doesn't stay enabled:
