Hi all, new to the list so pardon me if my question has already been
answered. I have tried searching, believe me! Also sorry if my mail gets
badly formatted, this new version of thunderbird is a bit opaque to me,
it used to be easy to select plain text formatting, but now I can not
find that setting anymore.
I have a couple of Seagate SAS drives, fairly expensive, so I'd like to
treat them as nicely as possible. At present they are CONSTANTLY running
"background scans", and generating a bit of heat and noise. The drives
are in for a rough summer if I can not make the background scans take a
vacation. I've pasted a smartctl -x output example at the end here. The
drives are of type Seagate Constellation ES.3, so from what I gather it
SHOULD be possible to turn off BMS on the drives. Smartmontools report
progress and logs from the scans, but I can' figure out how to turn it off.
