Dear smartmontools people,

I've a question about data coming from smartmontools. (I'm actually using
GSmartControl and SMART Utility.)

I recently bought four new Hitachi Ultrastar 7K3000 HUA723020ALA641 drives.
True, these were made in 2012 and it's a little funny to be buying them new
now. They were OEM units being sold cheaply. I short self-tested each of
them early in their lives, at between 5 and 44 hours, and got these test
logs:

Each test log shows two tests having occurred before(!) my test but at
numerically huge lifetimes. Reports from 0 hours also show those two tests.

What caused this? There's the horrible hypothesis of the new drives being
old with their S.M.A.R.T. data imperfectly reset. Or could it be a Hitachi
S.M.A.R.T. firmware snafu? Could it be an error in smartmontools extraction
of the S.M.A.R.T. data?

Thanks,

Dennis Couzin
