Apparently the start menu always shows the first shortcut which starts 
with "notepad".
The only way I found: remove the related shortcuts from
   ...\Start Menu\Programs\smartmontools
or reinstall smartmontools without shortcuts

The problem may not appear if notepad++ was present before smartmontools 
installation.
