Activating SMART on WesternDigital RED 8TB (WD80EFZX-68UW8N0), smartctl 6.5, Synology DSM 6.0

Hi all,

I need an help to activate SMART support on WesternDigital RED 8TB
(WD80EFZX-68UW8N0) and smartctl 6.5 on a Synology NAS with DSM 6.0

I’ve tried to enabling it with:

$ sudo smartctl -d sat -s on -S on -T permissive /dev/sdc | grep SMART
SMART Enabled.
SMART Attribute Autosave Enabled.

But querying the device it seems not working:

$ sudo smartctl -a /dev/sdc | grep "SMART support"
SMART support is:     Unavailable - device lacks SMART capability.
