Just noticed your reason for needing Java.....

I had similar problems last year over db4 and java.  In the end I found
that you do not need anything external to rebuild db4 and get a db4-java
package, gcc-java  can do the job.  But if you have ever played with a
3rd party jdk things can get hosed up so bad it won't work anymore.  I
ended up regenerating my chroot build environment to fix things.
