You can do that ... but it is possible that your directory might get
cleaned out of the BUILD directory by a rebuild process later.

I would probably copy the linux-2.6.9-xxx directory to /usr/src/ and
symlink that to /usr/src/linux.

(and do it again on the next kernel, etc.)
