imho this patch from http://airsnort.shmoo.com/orinocoinfo.html should 
go in (Patch for the orinoco driver to support Monitor mode).
http://airsnort.shmoo.com/orinoco-0.13e-patch.diff applies cleanly with 
a few offsets.
