OT: howto remove SHM that was attached by shmat

Hi, 
 it seems like it's not possible to remove shm segment that some process
shmat-ttached to it's space. That's a bit of a problem since when process
crashes it won't detach that space... what you get is 
1) severe memory leak(?)
2) process that won't start again because it's shm segment is already used
by some other process.. and you need to REBOOT your system.

 Is there some solution to this problem?
