Um. I think you may not be taking the best approach here. You basically took
your ball and went home (the fact that nobody on this list comes close to
you as a kernel hacker must have offended you a great deal :).
What harm would it do to release what you come up with? You still are under
no obligation to support it in any way...
It's what I do with my kernel hacks (not that they amount to much). If
someone finds them useful, so much the better - we've managed to reduce
duplication of effort, which is partly what open source is about. It
wouldn't occur to me to pout and sulk just because I'm the only one who
could create that particular patch (either because I'm the only one who
thought it was worth doing or the only one who had the time or the only one
who knew how - in my case, the latter is the least likely, but what does it
matter?).
Oh well. I just hope you'll get over it.
