I'm making a wiki on setting up (as one possibility alongside traditional
mirrors) a p2p system that integrates with package installation; so a p2p
node would be a specific example of what you call a PM server front-end (or
perhaps the server is configurable, with the p2p being a pluggable
_transport_ to such a PM server).

Course, a p2p transport would not be ideal for mobile devices (unless they
are on a mesh network! oooh!!)...
