If you have ever worked in a job where your reqs for whatever project ( code or otherwise ) constantly are in flux due to oh .. some marketroid changin his/her mind ever 2 weeks. You know that your project ends up running on for 12 months with 600 1/2 implemented features and no real substantial product to speek of. My proposal is that we make some formal layout for an RFC, ERD (Request for Comments, Engineering Requirements Doc) for major parts of the distribution. This initiates a common and recognizable format for documentors, coders, and users alike to understand the end-goals .. I know that Gentoo had just announced that they would be taking on a similar approach with feature propsals. I know that up-front this type of stuff can tend to put people off, but in the end it will ensure that if another person wants to come along and add a tool or what not that could interface with what your working on. They know where to go to find the API/spec or whatever. I think will be sooo important with the multi-tiered portage architecture proposals and making sure we can all work in parellel and know that the end products will fit together. > > > On Saturday, June 28, 2003, at 7:20 PM, Zach Welch wrote: > > > As such, one of the chief mottos I have begun to float around the > > community is "Show Me The Spec!".
