It is by design. For the moment:

- a lot of lisp code has problems with different compilers
- we don't want to have lisp newbies staring at deep problems

so:

- we ignore build errors at install time
- we hope that lisp library writers will modify the scripts so errors
  are reported

For the near future I'm working on a debconf interface to select showing
build errors or not.
