i've posted a few notes there. so far the discussion has been limited 
to whether/how one can tell if the parent process is a terminal.

i'll have to wait to see what else comes back.

those should have occurred to me. there are also a few #$ close by. 
they're rather simple reader macros. i've replaced them here with 
readable forms - in case one should want to reduce things back to one 
file.
