Sorry, I misunderstood. You are NOT seeing the recompiles when force is used. I'm using ASDF that comes with the latest version of SBCL (0.9.10) on Linux x86. Except for differences in whitespace and some additional files in the cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/cclan version, the source that comes w/SBCL in /sbcl-0.9.10/contrib/asdf looks the same. If you want to satisfy your curiosity as to why my force option always recompiles, I'll be glad to try some experiments if you can suggest any. Thanks for your time.
