For some historical context: the copy of asdf in sbcl was added as a
convenient way to build/load other contribs, not in an attempt to make
asdf take over the world (though it probably hasn't hurt in that
respect either ...)

My opinions are very much as an _ex_-contributor to either (lack of
time), so don't take them as diktat, but in my time I tried to avoid
having divergent asdf forks floating around and so I'd be saddened if
the ongoing development direction of asdf makes it unable to meet
sbcl's need somehow here.  If it's not clear what I'm saying: I
support this request unless (1) someone's going to come up with something
better in the same timeframe, or (2) the asdf in sbcl can be reverted to a
version before preference loading was introduced until TRT is decided.
