I just updated asdf

with the patch to modify system-definition-pathname so that even  
systems that are loaded "by hand" will be reloaded by ASDF if they  
change.

Also added two tests for this behavior. Tests pass on OS X under sbcl,  
clisp, allegro and allegromodern.
