pdf files

I am running the server on a FreeBSD platform under CMUCL. For some reason when Windows users access the server and try to view PDF files, which are stored on the same machine as the server, they receive the following error:



        File does not begin with '%PDF-',



For some reason the error is intermittent and sometimes after a few tries everything is fine! Any ideas?
