I guess the reason is that GCC is the only compiler that has ever been
used building clg.

Yes, other compiler could probably also be used, but I am not sure if
other compilers will always work with the same compiler flags as GCC. So
until someone reports success with or supplies a patch for another
compiler, I think I just leave it as it is.
