Logical pathnames is one part of CL I have never really understood, but
with a little experimenting I found that the following works in all of
SBCL, CMUCL and CLISP (and what was supposed to be in the README file):

(setf 
 (logical-pathname-translations "clg") 
 '(("**;*.*.*" "/home/espen/src/clg/**/*.*")))
