Thanks for the tip.  It turns out I did upgrade OpenSSH.  I was able
to test that I can connect to the Sourceforge site with

   ssh -1 [email protected]

Given this, I eagerly set CVS_RSH to 'ssh -1', which made CVS bomb :}

I know I am a pain in the whatever, but please spare me the RTFM :)
