that made sense for cvs because each file had its own id.
with mercurial it makes no sense whatsoever.
just put a single

(defvar *id* (shell "hg id --debug"))

in one file and you already have full information.

I don't want to argue about it anymore (I know you will eventually
follow my route anyway :-), please feel free to do as you wish.
