Yes, your patch makes a lot of sense. I suppose the old
*update-context* was meant to allow overriding of the package of read
symbols. But, it certainly did not work. If required, such
functionality can be correctly added later.

I've committed your patch and released version 2.11.6 which also has
Marcus Pearce's start of the major documentation revision.
