I thought about it before as something I would like to have, but don't 
have the time and/or affinity for C to make it happen.

So my compromise has been to attempt to write a really good pl/pgsql 
editor (in Lisp based on the editing facilities in LispWorks). I don't 
get to code server side functions and triggers in Lisp, but it is 
becoming less painful to do in SQL :)
