Jakarta's the apache umbrella group for java development. Tapestry's the subproject that does web guis. Anyway, you can find some documentation on the tapestry templating system here: http://jakarta.apache.org/tapestry/doc/DevelopersGuide/components.html-template.html but the basic idea is that a tapestry template is a normal html fragment with certain tags augmented with a special attribute, "jwcid", that tells the framework to replace the tag with the rendered version of the component in the page class identified by the jwcid. Another cool feature of tapestry is that it supports development of plug & play html widgets. I think Apple's WebObjects framework provided a lot of the inspiration for this. I think OnShore's IMHO lisp web environment is a bit like this. I need to go take another look at it. miles
