That was my impression too. As Peter mentioned, limiting XML to describing the protocols alone sounds useful enough. IMHO if the BEEP team made a layered standard (where one could choose to either use BEEP command syntax or roll their own), BEEP framework could become applicable to much wider domain. In contrast, one of the Etiquette design goals was limited scope (I have no skills and resources to cover all aspects anyway :), so it was decided early that the message format should be determined by application layer. As a nice side-effect it also allows to re-implement a number of existing documented protocols. -- Eugene
