When I first read your earlier mail, I thought you were talking about
building your suggested software in emacs; I noticed one of the lists these
messages are going to is cl-emacs.

Having read it again, I'm not so sure. Are you? Emacs, I mean. 

Anyways, emacs, whether programmable in emacs Lisp or CL, is a platform in
itself, so can surely be used to build such stuff.

I mentioned those URLs above because I'm interested in using such things,
and they do go beyond mail. If they are properly-built platforms, they
won't mandate a specific GUI monstrosity as their UI. Indeed, building an
emacs comint thingy to talk to such a platform should be straightforward.

(I only use emacs for programming in CL and the occasional text editing
session. I don't know emacs well.)
