That's the only dubious point in the proposal: the mails should be
stored in standard format mailboxes.=20

It was hard enough when RMAIL had problems and I had to convert all
the Babyl mail boxes.  Not to speak about  NeXTSTEP Mail.app mailboxes
that are standard format only that all the attached files are
detached, which means that they're essentially lost.

You can keep as much meta data out or in the mailbox, but keep the
main mail repository in standard mailbox format.
