I feel reasonably confident I can produce this in an hour or two with access. Regarding macports, I've found and fixed the gcc build error. This should standardize things with non-mac builds considerably. For posterity, gdb needs to be run under sudo, and with set startup-with-shell off. Are you still involved with macports?
