Based on your description of the problem, I think this issue is the
same as bug #534004 (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=534004)
that has been fixed by commits 6ac25f67c (for glib/) and b0acebe9c
(for gtk/).

You will have to build guile-gnome from master or apply these changes
on top of 2.16.1 sources.
