Regarding discourse, see my reasons in my reply to Olivier.

Regarding discord: I agree, it is not what one would want for a programming 
language community. Even IRC is better with searchable archived chat. Discord is 
an information black hole. It is also turning more and more dystopian, the more 
features they tack on.
