Re: M-. enhancements patch available

   Here's a thought:  Suppose we ask people what they plan to do once
the new M-. becomes available in CVS.  Answers could include:

   1.  Keep tracking head, and wait until the new stuff was backported;

   2.  Track the new M-. version, using HEAD only if M-. breaks; or

   3.  Track both versions, using whichever one worked best at the
time.

   If answers fell mostly into the last two categories, then it might
save work overall to create a "STABLE" branch instead, and just put the
new M-. code directly into HEAD.

   Does that sound reasonable?
