Paolo, I think the issue will be moot. I've received 24 replies which
is less than half of all of the people that I've identified who *may*
have authored code. From http://www.gnu.org/licenses/why-assign.html:
"...FSF requires that each author of code incorporated in FSF projects
provide a copyright assignment..."

It's a good question. I haven't found that this is required, only that
by assigning copyrights the project becomes a "FSF project".
However, copyright assignment appears unobtainable at this time.
