Integrating the M-. enhancements patch

   I think I'm finally ready to start on this, but I wanted to give some
advance warning.  Since the codebase has been pretty quiet over the past
four months, I see no reason not to put the new M-. implementation
directly into HEAD.  Before doing so, as a safeguard, I plan to create
branches as follows, following Daniel Barlow's suggestion:

	$ cvs tag post-5-12-0-stable-branch-point
	$ cvs tag -b post-5-12-0-stable-branch

I will then lay waste to^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hupdate HEAD with the
M-. patch, and send another email around when I've finished.

   In case anyone has any updates they would like to put in before then,
I'll wait until early next week (Monday or Tuesday) before starting the
process.  I trust you will not hesitate to let me know if I screw it
up.  ;-}
