Integrating the M-. enhancements patch

      I think I'm finally ready to start on this, but I wanted to give some
   advance warning . . .

   I'll wait until early next week (Monday or Tuesday) before starting the
   process.  I trust you will not hesitate to let me know if I screw it
   up.  ;-}

Six weeks later, I see that my strategy of waiting for a big chunk of
time was probably foolish.  I was hoping for enough free time to give me
a good chance of finishing all at once, but it didn't happen, so I have
gone ahead and done the tagging, and am now working on integrating the
M-. enhancements into HEAD.  (I've also accumulated some CVS experience
in the mean time, so I have a much clearer picture of what is supposed
to happen.)  I'll keep you all posted.
