ilisp change user's settings on (X/GNU) Emacs

Overall, my work with emacs is not affected by this issue. I wonder if anyone thinks this is something that can or should be fixed. As for the first issue, I see that the paren-mode is by default global in xemacs, but can be made to apply to a particular buffer. I'm not sure if GNU emacs can set the paren highlighting on a per-buffer basis, though. Thanks for considering the question.
