xemacs hangs on space

Hello,

While using CMUCL 18e and ACL 6.2 on Xemacs 21.4 with ILISP 5.12 on 
Debian, it often happens that XEmacs hangs.

This happens when I type a function or other form and press space. After 
  waiting 5 minutes it still hangs. I can press ctrl-g to quit, and then 
C-z z to reset the lisp connection, but this is ofcourse not an ideal 
solution.

If anyone has any tips on how to work around this I would be grateful.
