Well, in 1980 we had one or two very expensive things with GPIB which talked to some very also very expensive HP machine with GPIB.  Everything else we typed in.  Today my watch, which I have to charge once every few weeks, sends a stream of data to my phone, which sends it to some machine from where I occasionally download and plot it.

Other than that, no, nothing's changed.
