I got drowned in technical details further in the email, but here are my thoughts on the waveforms. First, it seems like the glitch is not very visible on the 8kHz in time domain, but it is likely due to the small size of the pic in the email, there is definitely a burst visible on the spectrogram still. However the burst is not a very short overwhelming impulse due to how uneven the spectrum is (also see the weird banding going on in the red printout) but it has some spectral content to it. The high frequencies dominate, which is typical for sudden spikes in the time series without necessarily a loss of the original signal — it looks like an additional signal mixed in rather than a distortion of the original one. Now, the 48kHz signal is expectedly similar but has its own weirdities. The time domain signal is not looking like there is an overimposed signal according to the conclusion above, but rather the amplitude of the signal is messed up with a sudden reduction just where the red cursor is. Again, the red spectrogram still looks like a burst, but it is also somewhat uneven (although looking more even to me than the 8kHz one) with some banding going on as before. Additionally you get these weird amplitude increases both in lows and highs, rather than just highs like in the 8kHz spectrum, I find it very untypical.
