I would be amazed if the IDE works with a non-LW implementation: things like breakpoints &c will depend on fine details of the implementation. What I do is to write all my code in the LW IDE and then test in other implementations, and (in cases where I care a lot about cases where SBCL is a good deal faster than LW) run it in SBCL. This obviously won't work if you're using implementation-specific features: I either don't do that, or hide them behind shims or conditionalisation (say, for specifying how to make hashtables weak &c). This works pretty well for me. --tim > On 2 Feb 2026, at 12:35, Uģis Lācis (as ugis dot lacis at equa dot se) <[email protected]> wrote: > > Dear LispWorks community, > > I am trying to work on our LISP codebase in parallel with LispWorks and SBCL. However, I am a bit slowed down by the fact that debugging in SBCL is not very accessible, i.e., SLIME has a bit steep learning curve (to make a traditional Windows user feel good with Emacs workflow) and VSCode Alive extension is somewhat limited. > > Therefore, I have tried to figure out if I could use LispWorks IDE/debugger with SBCL backend. By looking through documentation, I have found that SLIME is supported with LispWorks, but I have found no references to process other way around, so I presume the answer would be – no. But in order to be sure I have not missed anything; I wanted to post the question in the mailing list as well. Am I correct that this is not possible? > > Best, > Ugis
