Merged HEAD into experimental branch

Hi,

I merged the HEAD into the experimental branch (compiled, tested, and committed).
Just brought that up-to-date so I can put a few things in there soon.

Also tried to bring the branch tag up to date with:

cvs rtag -F -r experimental experimental-lastmerge lush

on a working copy of the experimental, hope that worked properly.
