I did not put this very well. Breaking compatibility is always disruptive and should be an exceptional measure for improving the language. I'm sure some of us have a little wish list of language additions or changes in their back of their heads. Since the next major release update is in the indefinite future, let's use this window of opportunity and focus efforts now on those items on our lists that require breaking compatibility. What about making lexical scoping the default? Would this be a welcome change? And is it realistic to implement this within a few weeks?
