RMCL 5.2.1b file signature recognition on Snow Leopard 10.6.3

I am running mcl 5.2b6 compiled from mercurial updates.

It recognizes its .lisp sources from the repo, but I do not seem to be able to open other lisp sources. I am also using ccl. I have tried changing the Finder file meta data using the Finder Get Info. Format all seem to match as Western (Mac OS  Roman). However, most modern ccl lisp sources use Unix LF/UTF-8, while RMCL is using MacCR. I suspect this to be the issue.

Is there a way to modify the RMCL sources to recognize and use the newer format. Which source files are involved?
