You have really helped me out of a hole with Allegro.  Thanks very much.  I am sure my experience will help others attempting to join Windows and Linux.  I've posted a note to two groups via. Google to help anyone else with similar problems.

After some trauma trying to insall SuSE from a the local network, I
have some information that may help future installers.

For future searches, I should include that I tried installation over
FTP, SMB (Windows Share), TFTP and HTTP.  All were met with "Bad
server response"-type messages.  I am using Windows 2003 Server.

I installed an NFS Server (http://opensource.franz.com/nfs/) which was
small, easy to set up, easy to configure and easy to run.  Well done
at franz.com!

At the first attempt, when I pointed the SuSE boot CD at NFS on the
same machine, it all worked.

Best of luck for anyone else attempting to install SuSE from a local
network.
