Cloning a machine while juggling a console...

I have two 3640s (well, more actually, but only two that matter at the
moment).  One is running Genera 7.2, and is only somewhat configured
for TCP/IP.  The other is running 8.0.1 and is fully happy with
TCP/IP.  Both claim to be willing to do Chaosnet, with different host
numbers.  I have two working console displays, but only one console
cable, one keyboard, one mouse, and zero tape drives.

The 8.0.1 system has been configured by the Dreaded Previous Owner
(tm) for an open lab where everyone has to be authenticated (e.g.,
they don't want anyone sending anonymous mail).  Thus, only valid
accounts are allowed to log in, and somehow they neglected to convey
the list of those accounts to me when I received the hardware (not to
mention the passwords).

The goal is to clone the 8.0.1 system onto the 7.2 system.  Given the
above conditions, does anyone have any suggestions for how to go about
this?  I'm figuring the Chaosnet support is probably sufficient for
the file transfers per se, but installing on top of a live system seems
potentially hazardous.  No doubt versioned files will be of great help
in this situation.

Oh yeah, the 7.2 system turns itself off twenty minutes after
power-up.  Might this be an issue (he asked facetiously)?  For those
with relatively long memories, this the system I was playing with a
couple of years ago; never have figured out why it's cutting out,
since all the fans are running fine and there's no obvious air-path
blockage.

Eventually, I'm going to need a second console cable, keyboard, and
mouse.  What sources of such spares are running around these days?  As
a guess, the cloning mentioned about would be easier with those extra
hardware bits at hand.

If there are licensing issues that need to be resolved, I'm assuming
the Symbolics folks here will let me know about them.
