Reviving an NXP1000

I have an NXP1000 which I scavenged the disk from in an emergency.
I've now obtained a couple of probably-working 2GB Seagate Barracudas,
which I think should work in it - it had a (bigger) Barracuda before,
and I think they're all able to be formatted with the right sector
size. I have the Genera 8.3 media on CD, a suitable SCSI CDROM drive,
and suitable serial console.

Is this enough to get the machine back, and if so what do I need to do
to format the disk? I remember that with older machines (36xx with
SMD disks) that there was some serious magic that needed to be done to
get a FEP filesystem onto a naked disk, and it wasn't at all clear
that you could get a machine up from a distribution tape and an
unformatted disk.

Thanks
