goodmorning all...
quick question regarding symbolics X client....
from console on a macivory I type Start X Remote Screen.
status bar tells me its compiling various xlib things (though I'm afraid
that I can't recall them offhand) and that the activity is CLX.
the genera on host macivory window appears on the x terminal, but remains
blank.
a dump of the traffic shows the x window being set up and suddenly the
macivory suddenly dropping off the network. for what its worth when the
symbolics stops, the activity is "TCP out." a select-control-L changes
the activity to "No Window."
as I mentioned in my previous post, I'm very *very* ignorant about
symbolics boxes, so anything anyone might suggest will most likely be
something I haven't thought of.
just looking for a starting point in figuring this one out.....
It probably got an error initializing and was in the cold load stream.
That window should have showed up on the Mac, but if it didn't you could
force it to display by selecting something like "Show FEP" from one of the
Mac menus. (Sorry, I don't remember exactly and don't have a MacIvory handy.)
A frequent cause for errors is not having the Genera fonts available on the
X server. Another is having a depth too deep, that code was written when
8 bits was common and greater than that relatively rare.
thanks,
lvn
